Bleak House starts tonight on PBS

Last Sunday I thought there was no greater joy than the ability to print index cards. But now I've changed my mind. Now I think there is no greater joy than a new Dickens adaptation. Bleak House starts tonight on Masterpiece Theatre.

If TV is a producer's medium and film is a director's medium, I think either sort of literary adaptation is a screenwriter's medium. This one has been adapted by the master, at least when it comes to English lit, Andrew Davies.

I think Bleak House should be required reading in law schools.
